Today I heard a topic that I once thought about: should sex work be legal? So the person who raised up the topic related to sex worker said that some of them are university students who just want to earn enough money to support themselves and they would stop doing it after graduation. One quick question popped up to my mind was: is there any alternative jobs they can find? To me, doing other work sounds easier than being a sex worker. They can be a part-time salesperson at any stores, a cashier in marts, or an intern at a proper work place. Using financially supporting themselves as an excuse to be a sex worker just does not sound right to me. However, I do not mean that we should discriminate them or anything. There are people who are forced into this sector as well. My thought would be to help them out of this type of jobs. I don’t mean that discriminating them is right. They are human as well; we should respect them regardless of their career, skin color and social status. But I am totally against the act to protect them and help them staying in this career.
There are a lot of risk for sex workers: sexual transmitted disease, sexual violence and psychological disorder. The people who look for this type of service couldn’t be a gentleman or a nice guy. I imagine most of them are people who do not have proper jobs. Letting this “sector” to grow also contribute to the mindset of viewing women as sex objects. More and more men would think that money can buy time from a woman to satisfy their sexual desire. There might be male sex worker as well. I think the whole idea of legalize this job is eradicating the civilization of human being which is something that sets us apart from the animal. Instead of thinking about sex all day, we could be doing something more useful that contribute to the betterment of the mankind. Sure it is a way to release stress, but it is only one of the other many ways. So people who reply on this to release their stress should look for other alternatives.
All in all, I do not support any movement that contribute to the growing of sex business. People should be working on how to get them out of that sector instead of encouraging or protecting them in the sector.
